Leadership During Fitness Missions

We are crushing goals today! But not all goals are fitness related. You can learn a lot from working in a group. When it comes to running a fitness mission, there are a few "simple" things to keep in mind as a leader:

1. If you don't fancy yourself a leader, fake it. People will have confidence in you if you have confidence in yourself.

2. Know the mission. A lot of people want to believe they won't be asked to lead a mission, but you never know. Usually the day you aren't paying attention is the day I ask you to step up. Knowing the goal of the workout will help the team succeed.

3. Build memory images in your mind. Sherlock Holmes called this his mind vault. Whatever your strategy, find a way that works for you to memorize information so it's easily accessible. The more you practice, the better you get. Even in a mission where you aren't asked to lead, keep working on your memory to see what you can accomplish. This is especially important as you get older.

4. Know your team. Every member of your team has strengths and struggles. Depending on where you are in the mission, use them appropriately. That doesn't mean not having a member working at their weakness (in fact that's quite important), but time it right. Ask your troops if they have any physical limitations for the mission.

5. Plan your mission. No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. But a clear strategy in your mind will make it easier to make adjustments as the mission moves forward. You don't have a lot of time to think, so think strategically when you do have time to think.
